board of vigilantes: game 00035

Parcheesi is the game of Indian kings. Loaners in worn leather coats offer their services and the weak pawns have no choice but to sublet their territory to these lone gunmen. At first, this practice was frowned upon, but the richest kings didn’t care and soon the whole board was a mix of men who considered themselves the last hired gun of the frontier.

This general South Asian board game eventually evolved into a game of battles between bounty hunters and the game became known as the board of vigilantes.

The games violent nature has attracted many followers. It’s grown to the point where some Indians believe that it has replaced cricket and field hockey as the official game in India.

Spokespersons from both sports commented on the growth of this new sport.

Dhyan Chand Jr., son of the captain for the 1936 Olympic team, and assistant vice president of the Indian Field Hockey Association (IFHO), had the following to say, “There really is no need to comment as such humorous notions. Field Hockey, played by the strongest males in the country, has thrived for many years and that will never change.”

Sharadchandra Govind Rao Pawar, president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said the following, “I am scared. Those players with pistols are crazy. I heard they never change out of uniform.”
