game of 10,000 days: game 00036
10,000 days is the name of a music album by the band Tool. When they released the album they didn’t have the listener’s pleasure in mind. No, they were more concerned with posing a riddle to their fans. The riddle was basic, “What would happen if listened to this album every day for 10,000 days.
As of today, January 23rd 2008, 631 days have passed since the official release of 10,000 days.
Only two people have been up to the test since the day the album was released. The first person is named Rory O’Clark. He lives in Edmonton, but has never seen Tool live. He does have a blog devoted to each member of the band. The other person who’s heard the album every day, and is also the reason Rory O’Clark has never seen Tool live, is Rory’s mother who’s been in a coma for fifteen years since Rory was seventeen. At first he had kept his mother in a government run medical facility, but then found out he could get $7,000 from Canada each year by taking care of his mother himself. Rory barely scrapes by each year. He has no other jobs.
Neither Rory nor his mother know of the riddle Tool posed by the releasing this album. There just isn’t much else to listen to in the house and Rory can’t afford to buy anything new. He does plan to buy the new Tool album whenever it is released. He’s already begun saving up.
One other person made it to 630 consecutive days listening to the album, but they died yesterday of pneumonia.
[Note: One other band (Saga) tried the same thing and posed the same riddle to their fans, but no one listened to the album for than a week.]
